Both teams had plenty to play for going into this game with Castlegregory chasing promotion and Ballylongford chasing points to get out of the relegation zone. Ballylongford kicked three more points one each from Brendan Bambury, Kenneth Sheehy and Ciaran O Connor . Castles failure to take their chances during this period of the game would have a big bearing on the overall result , Micheál Ó Shea was winning possession at mid field , they had several scoring attempts but none reached the target until Shane Hennessy finally put one over in the 20th minute, Anton kelliher and Joe O Connor added two more for Castle but Kieran Mulvihill put Ballylongford ahead again before the half time whistle. Final Score - Castlegregory 0-12, Knocknagoshel 0-10.
Castle had a well earned win in Knocknagoshel on Saturday evening. Due to the unavailability of a number of players they travelled with a very depleted panel, and we would like to thank players who made personal sacrifices to be there. They put in a very determined performance the spectators were treated to a very competitive and entertaining game. Castle were 6 pts to 5 up at half time, the early scores coming from Shane Hennessy and Anton Kelliher with two each, Colm O Mahony and Timothy Moriarty with points each.
Knocknagoshel fought back hard in the second half and went ahead by two points, at this stage it looked like the momentum was with the home side and it was looking ominous for the visitors, but Castle dug deep and added further points , one from Anton Kelliher and one from Colm O Mahony to draw level, Micheál Ó Shea and Shane Hennessy were dominant at midfield and Colm O Connor and Anton Kelliher were winning breaks , Gavin O Connor was coming forward and linking up with Liam Maunsell and creating scoring chances, Anton Kelliher kicked two more points and Colm O Connor kicked from distance to put Castle ahead by three .
Knocknagoshel didn't give up but with the clock running down they needed a goal to get anything out of the game, the Castle defence stood up to the challenge with the Fitzerald brothers Gearoid and Nicholas, Enda Whealan , Colm Sills Joe O Connor, and keeper Shane Kenny all making sure that goal was not conceded . Knocknagoshel did narrow the lead to two points but Castle held out to come away with the valuable league points. One unfortunate occurrence in the game was the injury sustained by Greg Dowling, Greg had only returned to play for Castle and lined out at centre back until his injury in the first half. We hope the injury is not too serious and we wish him a speedy recovery. Also a mention to the subs who came on and all contributed to a great team performance, Niall O Mahony, Brandon Hoare , Maurice Slattery and Alan McNamara.
